Kent Maichle
Founder & Lead Instructor
Kent Maichle is the founder and lead instructor of Defense Factory, as well as a Gracie Black Belt, Certified Instructor, and owner of Gracie Jiu-Jitsu Appleton. He began martial-arts training in 2006 and holds a third-degree black belt in American Freestyle Karate, with additional experience in Krav Maga.
Kent completed the Gracie Instructor Certification Program in 2012 and opened Wisconsin's first Gracie Certified Training Center. Since then, he has helped hundreds of students build confidence, awareness, and real-world self-defense skills.
His work also extends beyond the academy. Kent has served as an Inspector and Judge for the State of Wisconsin since 2010, following the regulation of boxing and mixed martial arts. In 2016, he co-chaired a committee that helped establish unarmed-combat standards for the Wisconsin Department of Safety and Professional Services.
Kent's approach to self-protection emphasizes awareness, control, restraint, and responsible decision-making. The goal is not to win a fight — it is to recognize risk early, make sound choices under pressure, and find the safest path out of harm.
